900 Global Zen Master | Ball Review

It’s following up on two of the most successful balls ever produced by Storm Bowling Products. The 900 Global Zen is the best pearl symmetrical ball released since the gold ball and the Phaze Two has been the benchmark ball since it’s release.

The 900 Global Zen Master might not unseat them both as the best ball in the line, but it’s DEFINITELY got a spot in my bag for a while. Check the YouTube Link above to see me throw it on the 45′ PBA Dragon pattern.

Why does it have a place for the foreseeable future in my league and tournament arsenal? Let us count the reasons.

  1. It’s a phenomenal complimentary piece to the 900 Global Reality.
  2. I have developed a great affinity for high differential ball motion and this ball takes that cake.
  3. It’s better than the Phaze Two.

The 900 Global Reality is a great asymmetrial piece. The S84 coverstock on it is somehow pretty clean through the fronts but sees the midlane well and also doesn’t quit through pins. I realize that these are all the cliches that staffers use when describing the new piece they’ve been tasked with selling, but it’s true (and I’m no where near a Storm staffer). But also, it’s an asym. It has limits, especially when angles through the front part of the lanes have to open up. It loves to roll, and when you have to pitch it to the two board, it’s not the ideal ball.

Enter the Zen Master. The S77 coverstock digs in oil. The meditate core has a pile of differential (.054) to keep the reaction from front to back slow but significant and it’s symmetrical so it’s a little cleaner in the midlane and wants to continue hooking more than the rolling Reality. Having the strong cover that is does limits the balls abilities from very steep angles, but that’s not what it’s made for.

The 900 Global Zen Master is going to be great in many settings, but here’s a few off the top of my head.

  1. Mid to high volume oil patterns with high friction lane panels (AMF panels)
  2. Low to mid volume oil patterns longer than 42′
  3. Cliffed house shots (so basically every house shot tournament ever)
  4. Transitioning away from the Reality on any pattern the Reality looks good on.

If the cover holds up, I think a lot of people could like this ball. Low rev rate house bowlers probably won’t as it’s probably going to be too strong up front to carry consistently. Lower tilt bowlers may struggle with the low RG and strong cover combo and getting caught in between on the cliff. But honestly, a good pro shop operator could likely fit this ball for 85% of bowlers and not have an issue.

If you need a new rock and are ok with a strong but sort of boring, consistent reaction, the 900 Global Zen Master might be the one for you.
