Holy Cow, this balls hooks.
I was so confused when they announced the release of the RST X-2. There have been so many shiny asymmetrical balls released by Storm products in the last year that it just seemed unnecessary. Plus, the RST X-1 was so good for so many bowlers, why take the chance so soon on limited sales of that ball for the sake of it’s pearl counterpart.
But I couldn’t have been more wrong. This ball is so much different than the X1 as well as the UFO Alert, the Dark Code and the Volatility Torque, it makes sense why they went with this for their first release after their manufacturing break.
The Roto Grip RST X-2 was way too good on this 45′ PBA Dragon pattern. No one should have any business throwing a ball this shiny on a long, fresh pattern like that, but it was actually the best look that I had from three different zones. It honestly didn’t make sense why it looked as good as it did. The cover doesn’t see much of the front part of the lane, and it’s almost like the core does most of the work in the midlane rather than the cover. It uses it’s differential very well to control the reaction, and then at the end of the pattern uses that energy to let the cover grab the dry boards and boomerang through the pins.
Follow up, I threw this ball in league for the first time and had and absolute PILE of miss room both ways. If i got it right, it hooked up and didn’t roll out. If I got it left, it was stable through the oil and went high flush. It actually felt like I was bowling with a cheat code on.
Overall, I don’t think there is anyone I wouldn’t recommend this ball too. It’s great on sport and on house conditions. It’s clean and controlled and most importantly, it’s purple, and purple balls strike more.
