In 2017, USBC decided to end releasing the oil patterns and the livestream of the Open Championships. I think that was a critical mistake… This decision sparked an outrage out of the majority of the bowling community for the sake of trying to create a more level playing field. Since then, attendance to the tournament has continued to decrease and the highest scores have gone to more professionals rather than an even mix of amateurs.
In this video we’ll discuss the three reasons why I think USBC needs to reinstitute releasing the oil patterns and live-streaming the events for nationals. Encouraging education and improved bowling is the best way to create engaged and interested bowlers who will stick around for a long time.
