The signature line from Storm products has been one of mixed reviews at best. The Timeless was hated. The Drive didn’t sell. The Trend wasn’t what it was advertised to be. But now we have the Trend 2. Usually I’m not a fan of sequels, but this also isn’t a movie. This Trend2 might not be the angle creating monster that Belmo is telling us that it is, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be great. The problem though, is will bowlers see it for what it is, and not be underwhelmed because of their expectations.
The combination of the newly update LD Piston core with the NRG hybrid coverstock put this ball right in the middle of the performance metrics (for a much higher price.) That means that house shot bowlers will likely appreciate it for it’s simplicity and easy length. They won’t have to create insanely large angles through the front to deal with the cliff. Also, tournament bowlers will appreciate it’s control during transition. This ball will absolutely sparkle when the lanes tighten up and you can keep your angles in front of you on tougher conditions.
Overall, I wish Storm would have advertised it for what it is, not what Belmo can make it do. No one throws it like him, and therefore won’t get the results he gets. Once I shrugged off my expectations, I was delighted by the shape. It was just a lot weaker and controlled than I expected. So, if you enjoyed the Physix, All Road, or Super Soniq, I think this ball falls right into the same category as those. Slow transition & control is the name of the game with the Trend2. A shape we all need, and never ask for.
